Muscle relaxant/Anti wrinkle
We dont like to call it 'anti aging' at Friday Glow. Aging is a normal process and we like to embrace it! We call it intelligent aging!
Our facial expressions – are produced by the movement of muscles underneath the skin. Over time, these muscle contractions lead to wrinkles and 'grooves' forming in the skin. As we age our collagen and elastin production slows down, these lines become more pronounced. No thank you!
Anti wrinkle injections are made from a purified protein and are applied under the skin, temporarily reducing the action of the targeted muscles and preventing them from moving. As a result, lines and wrinkles in the skin are softened, giving you a, fresher-looking appearance!
The required dose will vary between individuals and targeted muscles. The treatment takes around 3-14 days to take effect and last for 3-4 months for most people.
Muscle relaxing injections can be used for:
Glabellar (frown lines)
Lateral periorbital lines (crow’s feet)
Frontalis (Horizontal forehead lines)
Hyperhidrosis - Excessive sweating
Lifting of brow
Bunny lines (nose lines)
Gummy smile
Puckered chin
DOA / Marionette lines (downturned mouth corners)
Lip Flip
Masseter (facial slimming and/or reduction of teeth grinding)
There are additional treatments to slim, define and sculpt your face and neck which we can chat about in studio.
In New Zealand there are three commonly used Botulinum Toxins (tox) available in appearance medicine. Botox®, Dysport® and Xeomin®.

Botulinum toxin (Anti wrinkle) FAQ
Can i get anti-wrinkle treatment while i am pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. Your safety is our main concern and for this reason, we do not treat clients who are pregnant. We advise against all cosmetic injectable treatments whilst pregnant simply out of precaution and due to the lack of information available on cosmetic injectable treatment effects on the fetus.
What ages is the best age to start?
There is no specific age you ‘should’ start getting muscle relaxing treatments - you may choose never to get it! Most will start in their mid 20s - late 30s.
Botulinum toxin is approved for aesthetic use for customers who are 18 years and older, however we don't encourage anyone 18-24 to start treatment if there are no lines to treat!
What are the risks?
Like any cosmetic treatment there are risks to be aware of, these complications will be discussed during your consultation. Complications include:
Pain, swelling or brusing at the injection site.
Headache
Lid pstosis
Brow ptosis
Uneven smile or Brow raise
Dryness of the eyes or excessive tearing
Botulinum Toxin resistance
Anaphylaxis
Anaphylaxis is a rare complication, however we have a full adverse reaction kit onsite, including adrenalin and have access to an AED within 1 minutes reach.
You are encouraged to follow your aftercare instructions and to return 2 weeks after your appointment for a review. As some complications like 'uneven brow raise' can be mitigated with additional unit placement.
What happens at a consult?
At your consult you can expect us to:
Take your relevant medical history
Discuss your concerns, educate.
Do a facial assessment
Advise you of the cost
Take before photos
Book you in for treatment
Do muscle relaxing injections hurt?
The injection process is quick and the needles are small and fine, treatment hardly hurts at all. You'll likely feel a pin scratch sensation, some experiencing stinging as the liquid enters the tissue.
There's no fun without some pain right?
How safe are they?
Muscle relaxing injections are considered safe overall when administered by a qualified practitioner in a hygienic environment like a clinic or studio.
Whilst you may have seen and heard scary stories about cosmetic injectables, Friday Glow will ensure you get the natural look you are after, all whilst feeling as comfortable as possible.
Will i look natural?
Achieving a natural look is something that is often requested and one we are happy to help you create. At Friday Glow, each treatment is personalised because we understand that you don’t want to look frozen or overdone and want to simply look and feel your best. We aim to enhance your natural look by offering our customers a free consultation where you can discuss your concerns and goals, how the treatments will work and the results you're after.
One of the ways to achieve natural-looking is to start slowly, with one treatment area at a time. A little at a time can help you get used to the effects of Botulinum toxin before you try it in other areas.
How soon will i see results?
Results can take a few days to visibly take effect with full smoothing and rejuvenation appearing after 14 days. Intelligent injectables take time to work because they need to reach the cellular level of the muscle in order to block the neurotransmitters in the nerve, which eventually cause the weakening of the targeted muscle.
Timings may vary between patients based on: The area that is being treated: Muscle thickness: The volume of injectables used.
The number of injections needed depends on factors such as the extent of the area being treated.
After treatment, your skin may be pink or red at the treatment site. This is normal and should go away within 15-20 minutes.
With virtually no downtime needed, you can return to your day as soon as the treatment is finished.
We'll check in with you after treatment with a follow-up appointment to review the treatment and ensure you're satisfied with the results.
How long will my results last?
The effects of intelligent aging treatments generally lasts up to three or four months. It’s worth noting that as with any treatment, the longevity of results can vary between patients. After a time, new neurotransmitters made by the body mean the ‘blocking’ effect of the treatment will eventually wear off, so you may want to get follow-up injections to maintain your results.
There are a few things to try to make your results last longer, such as following all aftercare recommendations and taking particular care to limit sun exposure.
Regular treatments over time also help to weaken the muscles that are causing wrinkles, so the effect will last longer.
How many units will i need?
Each person will have varying needs and requests, we cannot give you an exact dose per area, however below are what an 'average' dose may look like.
Dysport $6 per unit.
Forehead From 20 units
Frown From 50 units
Crows From 40 units
Xeomin $16 per unit.
Forehead 8-20 units
Frown 18-25 units
Crows 16-30 units
Dysport - Xeomin® - What's the difference?
Essentially all Botulinum toxins work the same regardless of branding, temporarily reducing the action of those targeted muscles and preventing your facial muscles from creating wrinkles when you smile or frown. Botulinum toxin can also be used for more medical applications such as to help prevent you from sweating excessively by blocking chemicals that activate sweat glands.
However the units required may be different or measured differently, for instance Dysport tends to be measured 5u dysport to every 2u of Xeomin. So you end up with more Dysport units for treatment, however the cost per unit is less than Xeomin, basically evening out to comparable costs.
Dysport has an earlier onset, which many clients enjoy, especially if they have an event within 2 weeks.
We are offering both Dysport and Xeomin at Friday Glow. We rate both very highly.
What areas can you treat with Muscle relaxing injections?
You can get muscle relaxing treatments to target a number of different areas and for different concerns.
Glabellar (frown lines)
Lateral periorbital lines (crow’s feet)
Frontalis (Horizontal forehead lines)
Hyperhidrosis - Excessive sweating
There are additional treatments that cannot be named for legal reasons as they are deemed 'off label'. we can chat about these in clinic.
Is there anything i should or shouldn't do after i get treatment?
To ensure the best results from your treatment, there are a few small things you may wish to avoid after your treatment.
Rubbing or touching your face
Rubbing the injection site may irritate it and prolong the redness.
Lying on your face
Try to avoid this for at least four hours after your treatment.
Alcohol
Alcohol can thin your blood and increase the risk of you bruising or bleeding after your treatment. Best to skip happy hour for at least 24 hours after your treatment.
Strenuous exercise
A HIIT class or any form of movement that causes you to make straining facial expressions can prevent Xeomin® from settling into muscles and nerves correctly. Give it 24 hours before you hit the gym.
Wearing makeup
Just for 24 hours, it’s best to avoid applying makeup that requires you to rub or touch your face too much.
Sun exposure
Try to avoid the sun, especially on the day of your treatment, as sun exposure boosts blood circulation. This can potentially disperse the Xeomin® faster than normal.
You’ll be able to resume most of your normal activities after your treatment.
What about before treatment?
Certain foods, supplements, and medications are known to increase the possibility of bruising. Therefore, we recommend avoiding the following for two weeks prior to any injectable treatment:
Fish oils
Anti-inflammatories
Aspirin
High dose vitamin E and Ginkgo Biloba
If possible, also avoid alcohol, green tea, and garlic for two days prior to your appointment
What is a Lip flip?
A Lip Flip is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that uses small doses of Botox to temporarily relax the muscles around the lips, giving them a fuller, more defined appearance. The procedure specifically targets the orbicularis muscles of the upper lip, causing the upper lip to "flip" outward, providing a fuller and more desirable appearance.
It is especially suitable for individuals with a smaller upper lip than a lower lip and is also an effective way to reduce a gummy smile. The procedure takes only a few minutes to perform, and results can last up to four months.
Pros:
Non-invasive: Lip Flip is a non-surgical procedure that involves injecting Botox into the lip area. This means there is no downtime and minimal discomfort.
Cost-effective: The lip flip procedure is less expensive compared to Lip filler and other Lip enhancement procedures.
Natural-looking: Lip Flip is a subtle procedure that can enhance the appearance of the lips without drastically changing their shape.
Cons:
Results are not immediate: The effects of Botox are not immediate and may take up to 14 days to become noticeable.
Temporary results: A Lip Flip procedure's effects only last a few months, so regular maintenance is required to maintain the desired look.
Limited in results: Lip Flip is a subtle procedure that can only enhance the appearance of the lips slightly. If you are looking for more dramatic results, Lip Filler may be a better option.
Potential risks: Patients may experience minor side effects like bruising and swelling.
